Events Marketing - SPOTLIGHT STORIES: "Find Your Match" - "Play Golf"

Events have always been my favorite element of the marketing mix - you get to see a lot of interesting people and places and can show yourself. I have done the whole spectrum - from vertical trade shows to user conferences, customer summits and symposiums. I am a big advocate of pre-show and on-the-floor promotions - this investment always pays off. Here are some examples of successful traffic and lead generation.

How can you generate traffic at a trade show, if your booth is small and location is far from being ideal? Be creative and let the people have some fun!

How: Play a Game

Find Your Match is an exciting game that involved giving out badges with up to three digits imprinted on them. Attendees are encouraged to look for the matching number on other attendee's badges. When one finds a match, he or she needs to show up at ApplianceWare booth and receive a item, as well as enter into the raffle for a daily Palm V prize. Badges are attached to a short leaflet, which explains the game's rules and also pitches ApplianceWare story.

Results: 500 leads in 3 days; increased brand awareness among the target audience

Return on Investment: 200% (promo costs: $ 5,000; products sold: $15,000)

How can you differentiate yourself at a huge show like Comdex or Networld-Interop? Let people play golf!

How: if you have the budget, set a mini golf course around your booth. While attendees are trying to score a whole-in-one, let your sales folks do the job.
